How To Tell Signs Of Depression?

Have you ever wondered if you are depressed? Do you feel as if you have no energy? Having trouble getting out of bed in the morning? Are you experiencing loss of appetite or increase of appetite? Waking up during the night and unable to stay awake during the day? If any of these make you stop to think then maybe you are suffering from depression. Here are a few things to try to determine if you are suffering from depression.
Have you had a physical exam lately? Symptoms of depression could be related to something that is physically wrong with you. Talk to your doctor and let them know how you are feeling and rule out any physical symptoms.
Are you getting enough sleep? On average we need about 6-8 hours of sleep. If your body is sleep deprived it can sometimes act as signs of depression.
How is your stress level? We can only handle so much stress before our bodies take over and let us know we are doing too much.
Are you getting along with your partner or having trouble at work. This is also related to stress, but if you are struggling with issues in your personal life, it can affect your mood as well.
Are you having trouble waking up in the morning and feel as if you cannot make it through the day?
Have you had weight loss or weight gain in the last two weeks?
Have you stopped socializing?
Are you using all of your sick days at work and still unable to feel better?
Are people telling you that you are acting differently and need to seek professional help?
Do you have a history of depression in your family?
Have you ever been diagnosed with depression in the past?
Have you had thoughts of harming yourself? If so, you need to contact either 911 or a suicide hotline immediately.
If any of the above makes you think than it is possible you could be suffering from clinical depression. Clinical depression is considered a mood disorder and is a real condition. It is a different feeling than getting the "blues". When you get depressed, you cannot just "snap out of it" you will need to learn how to balance your mood whether through therapy or medication or both. Depression is a curable disorder with the proper diagnosis and the sooner you get help, the better you will feel.
