Can You Get Rid of Depression?

1. Eat more veggies
Fresh, organic vegetables have the highest nutrient density per calorie. Fast food burgers, fries and sodas are stacked full of calories but few nutrients. The micro-nutrients in pesticide-free vegetables nourish the body, cleanse it, and help it to work as efficiently as possible.
2. Take a Vitamin D supplement
Although your blood test levels (if you haven't had a test in awhile, it's a great idea to get this checked) may be fine, most people still don't get as much Vitamin D through sunlight as they could. Vitamin D is important for absorbing calcium and building bones. Studies have linked low Vitamin D levels with depression.
3) Get enough sleep
There are stacks of evidence to show that not enough sleep affects mood. This is especially important for those struggling with depression. People who get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night find they can function more efficiently than loading up on sugar and caffeine to keep them awake.
4) Take a yoga class
With the help of recently advanced technology, scientists have been able to scan brains of Yoga masters and Buddhists monks who meditate frequently. Researchers found that the part of the brain which allows us to empathize and relate to others, the pre-frontal cortex, was more active and developed than the usual human's brain. Their mediation and yoga practices keep their mind at ease.
5) Community is important
Humans are social creatures, and must be in healthy social environments to thrive to their fullest extent. Facebook does not allow for this. By shutting off Facebook more often (consider deactivating it) and finding things to try out (if you need help, go to meetup.com and find groups you're interested in, try CraigsList or dating sites), you're giving yourself new experiences and chances to connect with others. This is important for brain health.
6. Take your drug prescriptions with a grain of salt
Do you need an antidepressant? Studies show that antidepressants have no more effect than a placebo, or sugar pill. Other research shows no difference between any of the antidepressants - they all have the same effect. Antidepressants only target the brain's serotonin levels, which is just one of many factors affecting mental health. And finally, the pharmaceutical industry has boomed from prescribing so many new people antidepressants in the last two decades. Antidepressant use has skyrocketed 400%. Pharmaceutical companies have taken advantage of a huge profit in their market.
