What Does The Bible Say About Depression?

Depression is a condition which affects a lot of people, both Christians and non Christians. People who suffer from depression usually experience intense feeling of sadness, hopelessness, fatigue and anger. Often, they start to feel useless and suicidal. The information provided below answers the question what the Bible says about depression.
According to the Bible, it is evident that no one is immune to depression. Rich people such as king Solomon and poor people like Naomi suffered from depression. Young people like David and older people like Job were also distressed. It also affects women who were barren such as Hannah and men like Jeremiah who was the weeping prophet. According to first Samuel chapter 30 verse 3 to 4, when David and his men reached Ziklag and found that is was destroyed by fire and their sons, daughters and wives had all been taken captive, David and his men wept aloud until they did not have enough strength to weep.
Some people who are in depression may be in that state because of something that has revived from the past that literally haunts them and makes them feel like they are under some condemnation. God has a word for that too. It says in Romans chapter 8 verse 1, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
Amongst the most popular men/women of the Bible have been described with some of these words: troubled, despaired, sad, discouraged, those with a broken spirit, and forlorn. The bible shows that God is not upset about our depression. Depression and discouragement are all part of life. The Bible does not indicate that God punished his people for their sadness but instead, he acts as a loving father. David was really distressed because the men were discussing of stoning him, each one was bitter in spirit because of his daughters and sons. David found strength in the Lord his God. This is in according to First Samuel chapter 30 verse 6.
God is our hope in the middle of depression. One important thing to do is to refocus. 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verses 16 to 18 says "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
When you are depressed, you should fix your eyes on God, his love for you and his power. According to Deuteronomy chapter 31 verse 8, it shows that the Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you alone nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.
When we turn to the Lord and call out for help, we will begin to arise out of the despair of depression. More about what the Bible says about depression is found at http://whatthebiblesays.net
