Are You Making the Most Out of Your Mistakes?

Mistakes. We all make them, yet none of us want to admit it, at least not to others. Instead, many of us grapple with our mistake behind the scenes, and we don't always do so in ways that are healthy to our self-esteem and personal development.
What Are Mistakes?
In order to actually learn from your mistakes and allow them to make you stronger and more content with your life, you need to understand what they are and perhaps even more importantly, you need to understand what they aren't. Mistakes are not personal failings; they are obstacles placed in your life to teach you the lessons you were meant to learn. Mistakes should not be misinterpreted as habits either. Bad habits and repetitive negative behaviors result from failing to learn from your mistakes.
Meditation Methods for Dealing With Mistakes
Did you know that practicing certain meditation methods is one of the best ways to deal with mistakes? Meditation allows you to step outside of the stressful world you live in and calms your mind so that it can process information.
This is when real learning takes place! Some of the most effective meditation methods for learning from mistakes include those that use self-affirmations and visualizations. Try integrating some of these techniques into your regular practice, especially when you're feeling down about a decision you've made. The following affirmations in particular may be helpful to beat depression that sometimes arises when we feel we've let ourselves or someone else down:
  • I am grateful for the lessons I learn from my mistakes.
  • My mistakes do not define me.
  • I am learning and growing all of the time.
You may also want to visualize yourself and/or your mistakes. Try seeing your mistakes as stepping stones, and watch yourself climb taller and taller as you use each one for your personal ascension.
Learn from Mistakes to Beat Depression
Depression can often creep up on us when we try to bury our mistakes instead of dealing with them properly. When we ignore our mistakes, our subconscious will try to process them and will remind us that we have unresolved issues to deal with. Unfortunately, these reminders often come in the form of guilt and regret. The good news is that we can beat depression back by courageously confronting the mistakes we make, learning from them, and moving on.
What techniques do you use for dealing with the mistakes in your life?

10 Top Tips - Coping With Christmas Emotions

10 TOP TIPS
Coping with Christmas Emotions
Depression is a common illness. It will affect one in five people during their lifetime. Feelings of hopelessness, tiredness, low self-esteem, sleeping problems and physical aches and pains are just some of the symptoms associated with depression. For many, Christmas can be a depressing time, and can be difficult to cope with for many reasons.
With the festive season already fast approaching, some will be out celebrating with friends and families and preparing for Christmas, but others will be starting to feel the added stresses associated with it. These may include financial strains, unrealistic demands placed on you by others and feelings of sadness associated with those dark nights. Memories of loved ones and times gone by are evoked, and feelings of loss can become magnified.
If you are worried about how Christmas might affect you, it can help to be prepared.
1. Plan ahead
If you are worried about being alone, find out what is going on in your area. Are there any drop-in centres, support groups or other community resources available over Christmas? Perhaps a Christmas craft class or local community walk? Check local newspapers or the internet for inspiration. Try to find out as early as possible what's out there. Also, see whether there is a good day or time for you to visit friends or relatives. Reconnect with people you haven't seen for a while.
If, on the other hand, you are worried about being overwhelmed at family events, think ahead about which you feel you could go to, and which you will be able to make your apologies for. It is OK to say 'no'. People understand how busy the Christmas period can be, and if they don't like your decision, then it is their problem to deal with, not yours. They will get over it. If you really feel obliged to attend something and can't manage a 'get out', just go for a short time, wish everyone a merry Christmas and then leave early.
2.Set financial boundaries
This can be regarding spending money on gifts or social occasions. Make sure you set yourself a budget and try your best to stick to it. Make cut backs on the people you buy for. If you feel as though some presents you buy have just become a habit, why not approach the person and suggest a mutual break in buying each other a present this year as you are trying to cut back, and you may find that they feel relieved about this and both of you feel happier. Take some pressure off yourself and let people know in advance that you will not be spending much this year.
3. Acknowledge your feelings
Whether they be worry, sadness, isolation, stress or pressure and you will be able to deal with them in a more pro-active way. By denying your feelings, you may push the problems away, but you won't make them disappear. By recognising and acknowledging your feelings, these problems won't bubble underneath the surface, and suddenly strike when you least expect them to.
4. Don't surrender to the 'perfect Christmas' pressure
Do Christmas your own way, make it your own, not how expensive marketing campaigns think you should, or how other family members or friends do it. The pressure to do things as others expect is unrealistic. TV ads and glossy mags can make you feel guilty and such a failure if you don't buy their new and expensive products that will make your Christmas 'perfect'. You can't please everyone, it is impossible to keep everyone else happy so don't burden yourself with that responsibility.
5. Embrace the cold
There are many excuses you can use not to get outside and exercise; it's too cold, you are too full of Christmas food, you just don't feel like it, etc. But there are many more reasons to just do it. Going for a walk in the fresh air gives you a boost, clears your head, makes you feel better in yourself, gets you vitamin D from the sun, gets you some exercise and above all, boosts your endorphin levels, the body's natural antidepressants. Do something for yourself that doesn't cost anything.
6. Help others less fortunate
Volunteer to help someone. Help deliver presents for your local Santa or help at a homeless shelter. Altruism and volunteerism make you feel better about yourself, but they also get you out of your rut, home and isolation. This is a time of year where the spirit of helping and compassion is right there, and if you can tap into it by helping others, then you will also be helping yourself.
7. Remember and reflect
It can be a time of intense emotional struggle at this time of year for anyone who has suffered a bereavement either recently or in the past. There is no right or wrong about how you should be feeling or what you should be doing. Whatever feels right for you is OK. Acknowledge the fact it is going to be a difficult time. Maybe hang an ornament in memory of a loved one, mount a photo of them in a Christmas frame. Allow yourself time to reflect and to cry when you feel sad, but then also allow moments of joy to creep in. Look after yourself.
8. Try to think positive
Remember to try to be grateful for the things you do have in life, rather than focussing on the things you don't have. This can be very difficult if you do feel depressed, but it can help if you just try to see the positive side to things, no matter how small and insignificant they may seem.
9. Keep a journal
Some find that writing about their feelings in diary form can help. If you decide to do this, don't be afraid to really 'go there'. People who write about their deepest feelings when they are upset or emotional are less depressed, less anxious and more positive about people who write mundane everyday things.
10. Access help and support.
Don't be afraid to get help. This may be a friend or family member, a counsellor or perhaps your GP. You may be feeling sad and tired, but you probably still look the same to those around you. Unless you tell someone how you feel, they might not understand what is wrong. A listening ear is an important treatment for depression. Use this time as an opportunity to really look at what is going on for you, so that in the future, you will be able to deal with things more effectively when this time of year comes around again.
Counselling can be as short or long term as you need. It can provide you with that extra bit of emotional support that could just be all you need to help you get through the darker months. Allow yourself some time to take stock of how you are feeling in order that you cope with Christmas in the best way you can.

Expat Counseling

Moving abroad is an exciting adventure but it is also a major personal and professional challenge. Without our usual support system of friends and family in close proximity, emotional issues are likely to arise or resurface.
Typical mental health problems that expatriates may encounter include: prolonged sadness, a sense of loneliness and isolation, depression, anxiety, marital issues, grief from missing our previous life, eating disorders, existential problems, and loss of identity. These unfortunate consequences of expat life are not surprising, when taking into consideration that, according to scientific studies, the quality of our support systems and social networks is one of the most important factor for our happiness and level of well-being.
Expat Counseling versus Traditional Counseling
An important element of traditional psychological counseling, also known as psychotherapy, is to help clients create or rebuild their social support system, so that this can be a reliable and genuine source of comfort, love and support when going through challenging times - which we all go through from time to time. In expat counseling we may still need to work on existing support systems, but given that these are not present and easily accessible to the client in the host country, it is vital to help the client deal with the feelings of isolation, loneliness and sometimes sense of despair that comes from the expat life, and turn these feelings into positive and creative forces of energy instead. In other words, the client will be able to turn the disadvantages of the expat life into advantages by using his or hers creative skills and true potential.
In the course of expat counseling it is also relevant to encourage the client to establish an acceptable support system in the host country. Some expats do not wish to spend much time and effort occupying themselves with creating new friendships in their host country, given that their current life is not a permanent one, and because they will eventually leave the host country. Instead they chose to spend their time on pursuing individual goals and maintaining their support systems in the home country. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing so, such an emotionally isolated life can eventually lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety and all of the above and previously mentioned psychological problems. Human beings are social beings, and it is in our nature to need and crave the physical presence and emotional closeness of other human beings, regardless of how much we reason with ourselves that we can do without it.
Who can benefit from this type of counseling?
Expat counseling is helpful for individuals, couples and families who have relocated to a foreign country either permanently or momentarily. It is also helpful for those who are planning to move abroad in near future, or for those who are planning to return to their home country soon, as re-entry to the home culture can surprisingly also present another culture shock. Relocation therapy is also ideal for individuals and couples who have different cultural backgrounds, which can sometimes lead to unfortunate misunderstandings and disappointments between the partners. Last but not least, this form of therapy is popular with individuals who have a multicultural background and who prefers to work through their personal issues with a therapist that has a similar multicultural knowledge and insight.

Signs That You May Be Having A Nervous Breakdown

Are you having a nervous breakdown?
If you think that you may be having a nervous breakdown, it will be helpful to get some information about break downs and why they occur. Here you're going to get a few tips so you can figure out what you're going through, and then you can take care of it.
How do you know if you are having a nervous breakdown?
Basically a nervous breakdown means that you're not able to function properly in your day to day life after some kind of an event. Perhaps you feel like you've reached a limit to what you can do for yourself, and you see no way to get back to the way you used to be. Whatever the case may be, there could be something like anxiety or depression that you have that can make you more nervous than most people. Generally you need to get those things fixed if you want to get rid of the chance that you'll have a nervous breakdown.
It's very important that you remember that you should call a suicide hotline or tell someone if you feel like hurting yourself or other people. You can even take yourself to the hospital and let them know what's going on and they will be able to get you the help you need. It can get expensive if you do go to the hospital, but that's nothing compared to what could happen to you if you decide to take your own life or try to hurt another person due to your mental state.
You may want to start going to counseling and even maybe get on some medications. Generally you have to see someone different to work on your medications, and then you can see someone that you can tell all of your problems to. Whatever the case may be, it's always a good idea to figure out what to look for when you're taking medications in terms of side effects. A lot of people have a hard time dealing with these side effects so they have to switch medications. Don't be afraid to bring up medication changes to a doctor because their job is to make sure you're on something that works for you.
Try to keep yourself away from stress for a while when you feel like you're at your breaking point. When you have a nervous breakdown, it's generally because you're too stressed out and have too much on your plate to do. If you can, just take a little while off of work and make sure that you have someone do your house chores for you if possible. Just try to take it easy because this kind of a breakdown is your body's response to a lot of stress.
Now it's probably easy for you to tell if you're having a nervous breakdown or if you know someone that has. This isn't going to be easy to get through, but know that it will end and you will be able to get help if you need it.

Waging a War Against Depression Through Exercise

This time of year many people suffer from depression and / or anxiety. It is getting colder outside, it starts to get darker sooner, and the majority of your free time is spent indoors. If you suffer from depression, anxiety or just pure frustration at what's going on in your life - there's good news. Medical Studies have shown that the difference between exercising regularly and doing nothing can have a dramatic effect on your mood, perceived depression and overall outlook on life. Just how much of an effect, and why is exercise overall so important for you to stay happy, let's take a look?
Exercise's benefits are most often connected with the physical effects on your body, but go through an exercise session yourself and you can see right away the effect it has on your overall mood, and actions throughout the day. Just think about this, exercise not only helps you to reduce stress, boost energy, strengthen your heart and muscles, reduce body fat, improves health it also indirectly ward off worry and anxiety. Whether you're worrying about the economy, anxious about possibly losing your job, frustrated with your kids, or even in fear of a speech you have to do the next day, whatever the case exercise can help relieve overzealous feelings and bring you back to center.
Often times, people turn to these "depression" pills you see on TV, or even worse accept depression as a "condition" that they are victim to. While the case is likely to be that they just aren't exercising, getting out of the house, and just dwelling on their own problems. Research has shown time and time again that exercise is an effective, but often underutilized method to help combat depression symptoms. Anyone can get down if they constantly think negative and about their problems rather than positives and solutions. Exercise serves as a great distraction and helps you break out of the downward spiral and onto a new path, often a much brighter path, especially if the exercise you're doing is an outdoor activity. Depression is mostly brought on when you stay in the same place in isolation. For example when you are incessantly in your house and don't get out of your home. Outdoor activity is a wonderful way to brighten your mood and put cheer into your day, this is especially important during the winter when feelings of depression are more common, indoor activity is a great option then.
Or you can get out and join a group of some sort, and make new friends. Joining small study groups at church or spending time with brothers and sisters in Christ socializing and interacting is critical in warding off feelings of depression. Even if you don't feel like exercising at the moment, rest assured as soon as you take that first step, stride or whatever you do your mood will start to improve and you'll want to go further. Just try it; when you're in a really bad mood or just frustrated with life, all you need to do is just grab your iPod and tennis shoes, go for a run, spend time meditating, praying and focusing on all the good things that God has given you and by the end of your run you will totally forget what it was that you were so stressed about.
One of the reasons, is exercise may increase levels of mood-enhancing chemicals in the brain, reduce levels of stress hormones such as cortisol, and give you an outlet for your energy which in turn will also improve your quality of sleep. Plus if you just think about it, knowing that you're doing something positive for yourself, gives you a sense of confidence and accomplishment, which in turn will likely cause you to take more positive actions subsequently.
I know even myself, if I exercise first thing in the day, my day always seems brighter. If I happen to skip an exercise session or wasn't able to fit it in, that day just doesn't seem to run as smoothly. Things seem mentally harder, I'm generally more irritable, and I can sometimes just boil up with frustration at people and the world. So I can attest to the benefits of exercise on your mood from personal experience.
This doesn't have to be anything advanced or even super vigorous. Anything that gets your blood flowing, muscles active and mind off of whatever worries you may have during the day. Whether that's walking, yoga, biking, jogging, swimming or lifting weights, they all provide the same benefits toward stress and depression. And the time period is not as critical, even just 10 minutes at a time can have a positive effect. While you would certainly want to ramp up the time to see optimal effects for both mood and physical fitness, starting anywhere is a great way to break a downward spiral and start going up.
So next time you are feeling down or just bummed, rather than turn to one of those "anti-depressants", caffeine, or some other stimulant that may only temporarily help, turn to exercise. It really is the best anti-depressant and ongoing tool to help you maintain a positive mood and outlook on life. You will not only mentally feel better but you will start to transform your body and become a better steward of the body God has given you, and you will become a better witness for the good news of Jesus Christ to all that you come in contact with.

3 Tips to Beat Depression With Positive Mental Movies

When bouts of depression hit, our bodies slow down, and our thoughts go into auto repeat about how bad we feel. It can be very hard to pull away from negative feelings when all we can think about is being depressed.
What if, instead, we could give our minds something better to do, that would draw our attention completely away from where we are? Well we can, by creating mental movies of anywhere else we would rather be.
1. Happy Moments Replay.
One easy way to distract our minds is by replaying happy moments in our lives. Remember walking on a beach, looking at a sunset, lighting a birthday cake. If you can immerse yourself in how good the moment felt, it can sometimes be enough to break the cycle your mind is going through.
Happy memories are easier to recall when you are having a good day. Make a list, while you are feeling cheerful, of memories that make you smile. Then you can use your list when you need some help beating depression.
2. The View From On Top of the World.
What if you had everything you ever wanted? What if you reached the pinnacle of success? Can you imagine what that would feel like?
When we try to imagine ourselves achieving all our goals, our minds tend to put up lots of roadblocks about why we are not good enough, or why success is for other people. But if you tell yourself not to worry, this is just a daydream, then your negative thoughts often let go and just let you imagine to your heart's content.
Imagine yourself doing amazing things you never even thought of; riding in a space ship, discovering buried treasure, flying on a trapeze. See yourself winning at the most marvelous things you can imagine, and feel the satisfaction from doing something great.
If you see yourself accomplishing astounding feats beyond your actual dreams, then your real goals may seem much easier to attain.
3. Star in Your Personal Blockbuster.
If imagining success just feels too difficult, get your mind out of your own story all together, and write yourself into someone else's. You could create your own sci-fi fantasy or historical romance movie, and cast yourself in the lead. Or you could write a new character for yourself into a favorite book or film that you already know well.
The further away your story is from your present place and time, and the more wrapped up in it you can get, the more like a vacation it will be for your mind.
Our brains are amazingly smart, except for one thing. They can't always tell the difference between real experiences and ones that are just imagined. So when you return from an imaginary journey where you just saved the world, your mind will believe you are heroic. You'll feel less depressed, and stronger about facing your ordinary day.
Have a favorite daydream? Share your story below, and share this with a friend. We'd enjoy hearing from you.

Beginning A New Life After Making Mistakes

Did you make many mistakes in life? Are you ashamed of your actions? Are you blocked by what happened in the past?
There is a bright solution for you. Now you can breathe again.
You are not really responsible for making mistakes and sins. The real reason why you make mistakes and you are a sinner always is the intervention of your anti-conscience into your conscious mind. Your anti-conscience is your absurd and evil primitive conscience. It didn't evolve with time because it refuses to change its behavior. It has a self-destructive and satanic nature.
You cannot be considered responsible for your actions when you are controlled by your absurd and evil anti-conscience because it is a primitive conscience. You are not a conscious human being when you are controlled by your anti-conscience, even though this is not visible to the outside world.
Now, you may conclude that if this is true, we cannot consider anyone responsible for anything. Yes, this is a fact. We cannot blame anyone for being absurd and evil because human beings inherit absurdity and evilness from birth. Everyone must be absolved.
Of course, you have a certain responsibility when you accept what is bad, and this is why you are judged by God based on your goodness. You are responsible for your initial acceptance of what was bad.
However, you cannot be considered responsible for making serious mistakes. When your human conscience is alive you have to condemn what is bad. When your anti-conscience destroys your conscience because you accepted what was bad, you act like an idiotic rational animal.
The fact that you are a rational animal doesn't mean that you are intelligent enough. On the other hand, you must develop your sensitivity if you want to be a balanced person. Intelligence without sensitivity cannot help you understand your reality.
You will be able to better understand this truth thanks to the precious meaning of dreams.
Through dream translation you enter into direct contact with God. You understand everything about your mental health, your life, your future, and a lot more. You verify that you are not responsible for your actions because you can see your anti-conscience into your brain and psyche. The unconscious mind sends you numerous dreams reflecting your anti-conscience's hidden intentions.
You understand when you are controlled by your anti-conscience, and you learn how to stop being controlled or influenced by your absurd and evil anti-conscience.
Your anti-conscience is a terrible demon, totally different from you. You are the human being concentrated into your tiny human conscience. You are not responsible for the existence of your anti-conscience.
You wouldn't make mistakes if you hadn't inherited this absurd and evil primitive conscience. However, you need this absurd conscience because without it you wouldn't be able to think, feel, sense, and perceive the abstract side of your reality.
The solution for you is the transformation of your anti-conscience into human content by obeying God's guidance in your own dreams. You will stop making mistakes and never again regret having done something. It doesn't matter how many mistakes you made, even if you have committed horrible crimes. Your absolution is obvious only because you had no conditions to fight absurdity.
God knows that you are not able to win your satanic anti-conscience without His help.
However, only if you will recognize your mistakes and you will truly desire to correct all mistakes is your absolution possible. Otherwise, you will be judged like a sinner. You cannot be forgiven without asking for forgiveness.
God knows how to make miracles. You don't have to worry about how you will correct your mistakes. God tells you how. The difficult part is to actually do everything you have to, so that you may correct your mistakes. Or better saying, the difficult part begins with the acceptance of your inferiority.
You have to accept the position of a sinner, and desire to change your behavior and begin a new life. You cannot protect your ego. This is very hard when you are proud of yourself and you have an important social position. You cannot accept being humiliated to the point of having to admit that you made costly mistakes and sins, and declare that you regret having done what you did.
God is revolted with the human race exactly because we prefer to suffer (and generate suffering) than to recognize the truth and humbly admit our faults. We don't have the courage to admit we made mistakes, and we don't have the courage to do anything to correct these mistakes. We prefer to hide our guilt.
We have no courage to demoralize our ego. However, we must admit the truth in order to eliminate our absurdity. We cannot hide the truth and evolve. We have to admit the bitter truth and then, begin a new life, without our evil self.
If you want to follow an evolutionary process and attain higher levels of knowledge you have to find peace after separating yourself from your evil side. You have to admit your mistakes, without being a hypocrite.
God created you, the human being who loves goodness and happiness because He needs your help in order to eliminate your evil side through consciousness. You have to obey God's guidance in your dreams and in your religion, so that you may get rid of your evil enemy, and begin a new life without having this monster constantly bothering you.
In order to do so, you cannot have the behavior of a thief. You must have the behavior of a balanced human being who is able to recognize your mistakes, without having the selfish and absurd attitude of someone who cannot be in an inferior position. You have to be humble and respect the truth.
Your new life will be the life of a wise and sensitive human being who understands the importance of goodness. This new life will help you forget your sad past and all your traumatic experiences. You have the right to begin again after recognizing your mistakes.
Christina Sponias continued Carl Jung's research into the human psyche, discovering the cure for all mental illnesses, and simplifying the scientific method of dream interpretation that teaches you how to exactly translate the meaning of your dreams, so that you can find health, wisdom and happiness.

Natural Depression Treatments Still Require a Doctor

Natural Depression Treatments Still Require a Doctor
There are a lot of products and therapies that claim to be natural cures for depression, but before you go and start experimenting on some of these often expensive products, be sure to talk to your doctor about just how effective they may be. Some are definitely more effective than others for treating clinical depression but some are only effective at getting your money.
Herbal Remedies
Herbal remedies are classified in the United States as dietary supplements, not medicine, so they do not have the same kind of regulations as prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medications do. It's important to remember that just because it is "natural" doesn't mean supplements and herbs aren't potentially dangerous.
St. John's Wort is a very popular supplement for treating mild depression and has been used in Europe for centuries to treat depression and a number of other woes. Because it can interfere with medications prescribed for heart disease, seizures, and some cancers, it is definitely not something for just everyone. Safer natural remedies to try include increasing omega-3 fatty acids and folate, a B vitamin, in your diet. Omega-3s are a healthy fat that offer a broad range of benefits to both body and mind, and a folate deficiency can actually hinder how well medications prescribed by your doctor work. Talk to your doctor about finding the right amounts of any dietary supplement that could benefit you, whether they are for depression or some other problem.
Mind Over Body
For centuries there have been disciplines espousing the idea that with enough training and focus, all difficulties might be overcome, even depression. Often classified in Western Medicine as "alternative" treatments, these include acupuncture, massage therapy, meditation, and yoga. Many of these traditions insist that there must be proper balance in the body and its energies and harmony between it and the mind for true health.
While alternative treatments for depression can be beneficial for relief in especially more mild symptoms, major depression should always be monitored by a licensed physician or counselor. There are less inherent dangers in using these alternative treatments but as with any treatment for depression, they are not for everyone. With this in mind, books and videos that claim to be able to teach you how to cure your own depression should be approached with a great deal of skepticism. Ifyou've ever tried a self-diagnosing tool on the internet then you know that the symptoms of stubbing your toe could easily be bubonic plague. The people who write these self-help programs are often just as accurate in targeting the issues you need to overcome in order to really treat your depression.
If you suffer from depression, or think you might be, always talk to your doctor first. The prescription pad is not always the first thing doctors reach for and there are some excellent options for natural treatments that include the standard talk therapies and newer methods involving ecotherapy.
Oklahoma Drug and Alcohol Rehab is a treatment center that takes people out of the confinement of walls and into an open, natural environment to allow individuals to discover for themselves how best to overcome the behaviors their addiction hinges on. More than just drug and alcohol treatment, Oklahoma DAR hosts a number of other renewal programs to help with depression and compulsive behaviors with in-depth life coaching in the beautiful settings found in the Texoma wilderness. For More click here: www.oklahomadrugalcoholrehab.com

Depression - When Depression Strikes and How to Cope With It!

Depression is a simple reaction due to lack of control or monotony. People get depressed when they experience financial constraints or losing a loved one. But there are people who have genetic predispositions when it comes to depression.
Varying degrees of chronic depressed moods are caused by chemical imbalances that happen in the brain. Hormonal changes can also prompt depression while seasonal cycles can trigger depressive moods. Most persons who are suffering from a physical illness also get depressed.
Depression is an example of mood disorders. Other examples of mood disorders are dysthymia, postpartum disorder, and bipolar disorder. A person with manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder, experiences periods of extreme highs (or happiness) that is followed by extreme lows (or sadness). Clinical depression is a mood disorder that is considered as long-term depression while seasonal affective disorder relates to the cyclical mode's seasons.
Every year, more and more people are seeking for medical help to treat their depression disorders. The stigma of being depressed becomes less but more people are already claiming that they are experiencing the symptoms of depressed person.
Various types of drugs are already available to help treat people suffering from clinical and manic depression. There are also medical doctors who give prescriptions to these types of drugs to their patients who claim that they are suffering from depression. The problem is, most of these doctors just give prescriptions without even performing psychiatric tests to determine of the person is really eligible to take such drugs.
People who think that they are suffering from depression should consult a psychologist. It is the psychologist's role to determine what kind of therapy is needed by the person suffering from depression. After being diagnosed by the psychologist, the services of a psychiatrist could also be needed. It is the psychiatrist who gives the prescription on the drugs that will help in balancing the chemical imbalances in the brain. Depressed people can easily be treated with the help of medicines and series of therapy sessions in order to help the person determine cause of their depression.
There are two ways to treat persons with mood disorders like depression. The traditional way is the recommendation made by the psychologist or psychiatrist which includes giving prescriptions for antidepressants and conducting a psychological counseling. The alternative way refers to the use of natural remedies such as taking supplements and herbal medicines, acupuncture, exercise therapy, massage therapy, hypnotherapy, talk therapy, and 5-senses therapy.
Different types of treatment can help treat persons with mood disorders. However, it should be remembered that the treatment applied to a person would also work with the other person. For example, the walk therapy which is a 30-minute walk everyday gives an immediate result to a person's lift in mood. But when the same treatment is applied in St. John's Wort, the result became visible after a few days time. This only shows that each person is really different from another. What might be applicable on a person's situation may not be the case with the other.

Animal Therapy for Depression

Who could dispute that animals can have a positive effect on emotional well-being? With research being conducted into the field of alternative medicine on an on-going basis, more and more people are beginning to realize the cathartic effects that animals are having on individuals well-being, especially so in those patients suffering with depression.
While some people recover from depression using medications alone, there are many others, who would prefer to use a combination of alternative therapies to try to alleviate the symptoms of depression. One of these treatments being studied is 'Pet Therapy', but what is this alternative and how could it help?
Many scientists have spent endless hours looking into the different types of therapy available for treating depression as an illness; 'Pet Therapy' has been concluded as one of these therapies. Animals have long been recognized as being a positive force in the healing process.
Dogs notably have a calming and therapeutic effect on people. They can help individuals to cope with the emotional issues related to their illness. They also offer physical contact with another living creature and help to divert a person's attention from their pressing daily problems. Owning a dog brings about a sense of responsibility. Dogs rely on their owners for feeding, walking, attention and love. What better excuse for a depressed person to get out of bed in the morning?
Dogs love almost everyone without any degree of prejudice or rejection. You do not need to speak any type of language to communicate with a four-legged friend. Give them a treat, tickle their tummy and they will love you without bounds. Dogs are aware of illness and sadness and genuinely want to provide companionship and comfort; they show an abundance of intelligence and are both intuitive and compassionate. Any dog owner will relate and agree with me when I say that it is a warm feeling when their dog can detect their sorrow and lick their tears away.
Pet Therapy can facilitate many positive changes one such example being increased socialization skills. Animals can be used as part of group therapy programs to encourage communication and increase the ability to focus. Helping to develop a person's self-esteem and reducing their loneliness and anxiety are just some potential benefits of individual-animal therapy.
The bond between humans and animals is demonstrated every day in millions of homes around the world. It is also becoming a powerful, common mode of therapy in many facilities such as hospitals, schools and residential homes.
While it is difficult to measure and quantify the benefits of dog therapy with hard scientific fact, there is no question that the magical interaction possible between animal and human is unmistakable. Tears can be dried. Scowls transform into smiles. Silence is broken and lastly but not least importantly loneliness and isolation can be ejected from a person through mere touch and cuddles. Dogs offer their owner's absolute and unconditional love and a level of boundless patience that no human could ever possibly give. The love of a dog is unlimited, what better form of alternative therapy could there be?

Research Paper About Depression

Depression is a common disease affecting people from all ethnic groups, ages and professions. It is caused by the unbalanced chemicals in brain called "neurotransmitters". It is diseases which cause you to feel sad and gloomy and create a feeling of hopelessness about future. This feeling prohibit the person suffering from it to enjoy his routine life, hobbies and things which he loves to do normally. The most common problem about depression is that many people leave it unnoticed and untreated. Some people are ashamed of having depression just because they do not want their weak point to get exposed in front of others. People with little knowledge of depression take it as a normal mood swing but it is not. This feeling of sadness or despair is not normal as it does not go away or come with normal incidents that are meant to cause these reflexes. A person may get depressed even when there is no reason of being sad.
People suffering from depression say that "it is a black curtain of despair coming down over their lives" (depression.com/depression_basics.html). This feeling of worthlessness and despair often takes the patient to a point of no return where he could only think about ending the worthless life by committing suicide.
The disease is directly associated to unbalanced chemicals present in the brain. The human brain is a gigantic messaging system which controls everything from heat beat to the breathing, skin functions, organ working and reflexes. The brain is made of millions of nerve cells called neurons. These neurons send and receive messages from rest of your body through neurotransmitters present in the brain. These brain cells are responsible for emotional states of human being. When an unbalanced chemical reaction occurs in the brain cells the messages are not delivered correctly and disrupt the communication resulting in causing depression.
A person having depression feels sadness, helplessness and worthlessness. Some authors says that feeling depressed or in a low mood increase the ability of a person to cope with tough situations. Depression may happen in life as a normal phase when it is backed by certain types of life occurrences like sudden death of a loved one, divorce, loss of status or death of spouse child. Depression may be an aftereffect of any disease like influenza or flue.
Depression may also be due to some psychiatrist disorders like Bipolar Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, and Bulimia Nervosa etc. Symptoms of psychological disorders are dullness, chronic sadness never seems to end, obsession, shakiness when feeling most down and mood swings. The cure to psychological disorders is constant therapy and responding to the disease well in time.
As mentioned earlier most of the people do not know that they have been suffering from depression. This is due to lack of information about this common problem amongst people. The first thing is to identify whether you have depression or not. The next phase is to get to a physician. In case of depression both the things are difficult for a person who is suffering from the disease. This is because the patient is already down in mood and is never ready to rectify any wrong done to him. The patient is already having sad feelings about himself which forbid him to take any measures to get to solution. This worthless feeling if not identified well in time can push a person to end his life. In some cases the patient often get irritated to that extent that he never hesitates to harm those who he love the most and this is done under the immense pressure of depression that a person feel upon himself. It is like no dawn forever and no way out. The second phase is how to get out of depression when you have done diagnosing that you actually have depression. This phase is easy for some people and is extremely difficult for some people. In such case it is the collective responsibility of the family members or relations of the person to convince him to visit a doctor.
People suffering from depression need sympathy and need extra attention from those who are around them. This is kept in mind that in today's hectic world where everything is traveling very fast, a struggle between individuals to reach the top has created things worse. The fight for needs is converted into fight for wants which is creating unwanted problems for the society. In such case depression is becoming a global issue which is affecting every social group of every race and ethnicity. The solution for the problem is addressing the problem before it becomes a serious problem. Adopting healthy and natural life styles, living close to the nature and by avoiding unnecessary and complex life styles can reduce the problem of depression.
People should not take depression lightly as it is a catalyst which speedups the process of disorders which are virtually not affecting the person in normal life. Identifying the problem and consulting a physician can reduce the risks involved and can improve the quality of life of the patient and helps him recover and pursue his course of life in the normal manner. Eliminating gloominess, despair and worthlessness from the patient's life.

One Quick Trick to Reboot Your Mood

When we are feeling especially low, it doesn't help that we have a natural tendency to fret and stew about how we are feeling, until we've made ourselves worse than when the bad feelings started. We need something to short circuit what we are doing to ourselves. We need someone to slap us and yell, "snap out of it." Well, maybe not yell.
But there is a way to reboot our minds and our moods, and it caught me by surprise just the other day. Getting a surprise is always fun, because we can be doubly impacted when things are unexpected.
I was just having a really rough day, and going down fast. As some point I stopped to make some coffee, and had to open a new bag. Suddenly, I was transported. It even made me laugh, because all my troubles had disappeared in the aroma of Arabica beans. Heaven for my senses, and a reboot for my brain.
I laughed because I was aware of how effective this simple action had been. Nothing had actually changed in my life, but I had found the short circuit switch. A three second vacation in a Paris café.
Scientists have a name for this, olfactory memory. And we have all experienced it. The scent of a cologne that our grandmother used to wear, the smell of cookies someone used to bake for us, that earthy smell of our first dog. Whenever we smell these things, our brains immediately take us back to another time or place, without us doing anything conscious to cause it.
Our sense of smell does this more effectively than any other of our senses. Of course an old favorite song can stir fond memories, but what happens with scent is an observed physical phenomenon.
Just a Hop and a Skip From Nose to Emotions
If you dive into the science literature, you will find that there are only two synapses between the olfactory nerve and the amygdala, which is part of the brain controlling our emotions. Two steps are nothing in the immense system of our brain. It probably takes more time to turn on a light bulb.
This process short circuits whatever mood we are in right now, because for at least a few seconds, it carries our mood back to the origin of the smell. Grandma's house, or wherever we felt safe and happy.
You Can Create Your Own Scent Vacation
When you are aware of the power of the smells in your life, you can use them to raise your mood, or reset your emotions. We get overloaded from the scent of air fresheners and laundry additives, so it is best to keep our favorite smells separate from those foisted on us.
Some scents are said to have specific qualities, peppermint to help us focus, lavender to help us relax. Try some essential oils and use them specifically when you need a lift. Candles may work too, if you are not allergic.
Do you have favorite scents that automatically make you feel better? Do you get a kick from the scent of chocolate, even without eating it? Or feel brightened by a special flower? Leave me a comment, I'd enjoy hearing what scents mean to you.

4 Ways to Fix Depression Naturally

Depression can seem inescapable at times, and it can be hard to find a natural treatment for depression before giving in to the use of antidepressants. Whilst the word natural often conjures up images of holistic therapy and even pseudoscience, this is a misconception. Natural treatments can just mean lifestyle changes that help the body use its own physiology in treating itself. It's now quite common knowledge that serotonin is a key neurotransmitter associated with happiness. Serotonin deficiency is furthermore, both a cause and symptom of depression. The problem most encounter when looking for solutions to depression is whether to look to antidepressants or try other methods. Often people give in to medication because to take a pill is much easier than to commit to lifestyle changes. This is even more prevalent in people suffering from depression because their energy is low and their cognition's are ineffective. Whilst antidepressants mimic serotonin function and can provide modest results in the short term, truly getting over depression requires a multifaceted approach that is founded on good cognitive and behavioral habits. Natural treatment for depression is usually based on using methods that promote the healthy functioning of serotonin. Antidepressants assist in balancing brain chemistry, but they don't effectively build new neurological habits - and thus are always a short term solution. Using natural methods to balance your serotonin levels is therefore much more effective in the long term.
Causes and natural treatments for low serotonin levels
Cause: A low-protein diet (tryptophan deficiency)
Natural treatment: In order to counteract a tryptophan deficiency you can eat foods that are high in tryptophan. Easy and available examples include high protein meats, egg whites and most soy products.
Cause: Stress (high cortisol levels)
Natural treatment: They say 'stress kills' and it really does. The long term effect of high cortisol levels on your physical and mental health is severe. Not only are you at a greater risk for depression, but everything from obesity to anxiety to insomnia becomes significantly more likely as well. Proven ways to lower cortisol levels include exercise, sex, meditation and general social activity.
Cause: Blood sugar imbalances
Natural treatment: The human body was not designed for the type of diet the average person in western societies consume. Depression has significantly increased in correlation with our change in diet, and if you are depressed, consulting a nutritionist may be as important as consulting a psychologist. Eliminate processed food and high-fructose corn sugar from your diet to balance your blood sugar.
Cause: Vitamin B6 deficiency
Natural treatment: To improve a vitamin B6 deficiency, eat foods high in B6 (bananas, peanut butter) and eliminate alcohol.
These are just a few of the simple ways you can naturally assist serotonin balance. In reality, getting over depression is a long term process that requires changes in both psychology and physiology in order to prevent a relapse. Antidepressants can have negative repercussions and in some cases can cause psychological dependency. Try adjusting your lifestyle with these natural treatments before you decide to use medication.

Beat Depression With an Attitude of Service

One of the reasons depression gets such a grip on our lives, is that it's all about us. We may feel miserable and want to hide, but we are still at the center of our own little world of pain, and we may be more comfortable there than we care to admit.
As difficult as it seems, switching our attention to doing good for someone else pushes our depression to second place, and perhaps eventually out of our awareness.
But there are ego traps that can coexist with the idea of service. And if we want to appear helpful for the wrong reasons, it can just make us more resentful and depressed in the long run.
Find something you genuinely care about. All around your community there are people who need basic necessities, and agencies trying to meet these needs. It could be a soup kitchen, Meals-on-Wheels, or tutoring for people learning English. Rely on your own instincts to find somewhere that you will feel comfortable, and can provide the most help. Someone else's idea of a great way to volunteer may not be great for you.
Don't go looking for gratitude or reward. Serving people to boost your ego will do little to beat depression. Service is not about you. And that is what makes it such a freeing experience. Focus on who you want to help, and just forget about yourself for a while.
People in a food line may be truly grateful for a hot meal, but unable to express it. Many of them may suffer from some level of depression themselves, which has led them to the circumstances they are in. If you receive a smile from someone, know it is sincere, and be grateful yourself for your chance to do some good.
If you need some kind of feedback for the help you give, try an animal shelter. Animals have no pride to protect, and they let you know immediately how much it means that someone cares for them.
Start with your own family. As with any kind of caring, it needs to be focused on what people actually need or want, not what they think they should have. It is all too easy in our families to feel taken for granted by our spouses or children. So take stock of the things you do for them every day. Are you doing what matters to them, or to yourself?
Are you making yourself exhausted, for example, fixing big meals when no one is hungry, because you have an image of what a good mom is supposed to do? Maybe you really need to be a teacher, so they can learn independence. Or maybe what your family needs from you is your attention, or a listening ear.
Real service is about the attitude of giving. Feeling yourself part of a generous universe. And when you truly give from the heart you can discover the joy giving brings. The world becomes a much bigger and fuller place when it's not all about you.
